We live in a challenging time, constantly plagued by social media, ideas from pinterest, and the need to constantly be out-doing one another in creativity and craftiness- and pregnancy announcements are no exception! Besides competing to come up with the most clever announcement though, is the actual excitement of being pregnant! Of course you are excited, and you want to share that excitement with the world… and nothing is more fun than a cute or clever way to tell everyone the big news! I’ll let you in on a secret- right now I have a total addiction to searching cute pregnancy announcements and watching cheesy Youtube videos of people’s reactions…I can’t explain it, i am not pregnant or even planning to be pregnant…but it is so fun to see all of the creativity that is out there! After spending hours scoping the internet and scouring various blogs, videos, and pinterest, I have compiled a list of some of my favorite unique ideas and posted a few them here for you!
1- Only Child Expiring or Getting EvictedPhoto via: http://www.buzzfeed.com/robinedds/prenancy-accounements?sub=2951033_2347200#.fo91EoEV0%5B/caption%5D
I personally love the “only child expiration” type of announcement- and for parents who have other kids this would be great. Some ideas for this include painting up a cute t-shirt for your little one that says “Only Child Expiring (insert due date here)” or typing out an eviction notice to post on the crib with the “effective date” as the due date.
2- The Pregnancy Test AnnouncementPhoto via: http://www.buzzfeed.com/robinedds/prenancy-accounements?sub=2951033_2347200#.fo91EoEV0%5B/caption%5D
Even if you aren’t having twins, there are a ton of fun ways to announce using the pregnancy test. One cute idea I saw was to have the partner holding back the vomiting woman’s hair while reading a pregnancy book. You could also do a dad “passed out” with the pregnancy test in his hand. If announcing to just a partner, it is also cute to write a little “Hi Daddy” or “I can’t wait to meet you, Daddy” type of note and place it with the pregnancy test for Daddy to find. And let’s be honest….there are SO many fun ways to tell daddy that I think that deserves a post all on it’s own (coming soon so send your suggestions over to me!)
3- Photobooth Announcement
Ok, is this not the most adorable thing ever? Of course maybe it is too much work to actually record it (yep, I’m lazy, so that is just me!) but how cute would it be to show your partner the photos afterward and see their reaction if you hold up something cute in a photo like that? Or plan for the two of you together to hold up some kind of cute due-date announcement (or baby paraphernalia?) and then send copies of your photo strip to loved ones.
4- A Stork DeliveryPhoto via: http://www.thedatingdivas.com/family-fun/50-creative-pregnancy-announcements/%5B/caption%5D
This is just a fun way to still be classy and less humorous while still being classy and cute! I think it would also be adorable to either make little cards or wrap up a little bundle of a favorite treat and attach a saying that says “stork delivery : September 2015” (or whatever the due date may be)
5- What Will You Trade?Photo via: http://www.thedatingdivas.com/family-fun/50-creative-pregnancy-announcements/%5B/caption%5D
What are you going to be trading (theoretically and comically, of course!) for diapers, cribs, baby clothes, bottles, etc. ?
6- Dress Up the Bump!Photo via: http://www.thedatingdivas.com/family-fun/50-creative-pregnancy-announcements/%5B/caption%5D
Whether it is Halloween or not, dressing up to announce your pregnancy is always fun! There are tons of fun t-shirts around that have cute or clever sayings on them to announce pregnancy (check out Etsy!) and there are even couple shirts that say “baby mama” or “baby daddy” tht can aid in announcing your pregnancy. If you happen to be announcing around Halloween- I have several favorite costumes, including a “bun in an oven,” an x-ray with a baby in the tummy, or the going as the guy from the board game Operation- just put on a red nose, attach some paper body parts to your clothes (body parts that the board game uses!), and include a baby on the tummy portion.
7- The Video Announcement
Video opens a whole range of opportunity from fun to flirty to funny to serious. Creating a video to announce your pregnancy is one of the most memorable things you can do to announce pregnancy and there are tons of directions to take it! Some of my favorites have been videos of mommies-to-be experiencing all of the pregnancy symptoms and ending with the due date or using posters to tell a story like in the video posted above (just try not to cry while you watch that!)
8- Song Inspirationphoto via: http://emilylevenson.com/tag/pregnancy/%5B/caption%5D
There are a million songs that use the word “baby” pretty prominently within a recognizable phrase- just choose one! The photo above is obviously the song, “Ice Ice Baby.” Some other songs might include “Hit me baby one more time” (you could use a photo of your belly and do the words ‘hit me’ on one side and the remaining words on the other) “First comes love, then comes marriage” or even just create a parody of your own favorite to announce it like in the video posted below of Miley Cyrus’ “We can’t stop”
I hope a few of these ideas spur some creativity! Make sure to share some of your favorites with me!
